ON eight o’clock Thursday morning Arthur dent woke up and there was a bulldozer was ready to knock over his house. Mr.L.Prosser was trying to build a bypass were Arthur’s house was. Arthur lay in front of the bulldozer so it could not run over his house. Arthur has a friend named Ford Prefect, Ford needed to talk to Arthur. When ford arrived Arthur told Ford what was going on and why he couldn’t leave. Ford used mind games to trick Mr.prosser into lying in front of the bulldozers. The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy explains how to make the best drink in the galaxy the pan galactic gargle blaster. Ford also begins to explain to Arthur that he is not from earth. Ford had a device called a sub-etha sens-o-matic which blinked quietly away to itself in his satchel. While still in the bar ford was telling Arthur about how earth was going to be destroyed in a few moments.
They heard a crashing noise and Arthur ran outside and saw the bulldozer’s running over his house. This had been the moment ford was waiting for fifteen years now. Suddenly there was nothing but silence. All of the speakers on earth came on and formed a huge p.a.system and a voice told earth that earth was being destroyed to form a galactic expressway. The voice then instructed the huge yellow blocks to energize the demolition beams. Light then poured out of the hatchways there was silence then noise then silence. The Vogon constructor fleet flew away into the starry void .Zaphod Beeblebrox was the president of the imperial galactic government. Beeblebrox was on his way to give a speech at the “heart of gold” island also called France. This was proof to many that the whole known creation had finally gone bananas. Beeblebrox pulled up in his boat in the inner coastline and stepped into a floating bubble which transported him to where he was going to give his speech. He opened his speech by saying “hi” he looked around and then said “hi” again. One of the officials realized that Beeblebrox was not in the mood to give a speech so he reached in his coat and pressed a button. In the middle of the crowd a giant white globe began to come from the sky and a spaceship was inside the globe.
In the middle of the starship lay a gold box which was the most brain wrenching device in the galaxy known as the heart of gold. Beeblebrox said that is so truly amazing I’d like to steal it. Beeblebrox could not bear it anymore so he reached into his coat and pulled out a Paralyso-matic bomb. In chapter 5 Arthur wakes to find himself on a Vogon ship accompanied by Ford. Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz was always looking for something to be mad about it was the only thing that made him happy. The Dentrassis were hired by the Vogons to act as servants to the Vogons. Ford gave Arthur some peanuts because after coming through the matter transference it would drain the body of protein. Ford then showed Arthur the “Hitchhikers guide to the universe and how it worked. Ford gave Arthur a small yellow fish that would translate any language. Arthur refused at first, and then ford quickly put it in his ear before he could do anything. Arthur began to understand the intercom.
Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz said over the intercom that he knew there were hitchhikers on board his ship. There were patrol’s marching around looking for hitchhiker’s. Arthur began to think about earth and how everything was gone. Arthur wanted to look up in “the hitchhikers guide to the universe” what was listed for the term earth and there was only one word “hopeless”. As Arthur was looking at the guide Ford heard something and a Vogon patrol knocked on the door and grabbed Arthur and Ford. Ford and Arthur were strapped in chairs and were being forced to listen to Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz say a few words of his poetry. Arthur seemed to not even realize how bad the poetry actually was. So Arthur and Ford scrambled for words trying to save their lives but it did not work. Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz ordered a guard to take them to an air lock and throw them out into space. The guard threw them into the small chamber and within a matter of moments they were being sucked into outer space.
Chapter 8 briefly describes how the hitchhikers guide says that the universe is very very big. It also states the chances of being picked up by a ship which just happens to Ford and Arthur 29 seconds later. Ford and Arthur have been picked up by the Starship heart of gold. Inside everything was twisting and turning and there were a lot of unusual things happening. The ship is powered by the infinite probability drive which was a myth to most. Chapter 10 briefly describes how the ship was created. It was by a student who had a clever idea of making the ship. The student tested his theory and he turned out to be right. In chapter 11 Trillion and Zaphod find that Arthur and Ford are also on the ship. They send Marvin a robot to find Arthur and Ford and escort them to Trillion and Ford. Marvin is a personality robot, his personality is depressed. In chapter 12 Zaphod hears on the radio of him stealing the starship heart of gold. Trillion and Zaphod sit down and work out the probability of them going through space and picking up hitchhikers.
As they figure out the probability Arthur and Ford are on their way up to Trillion and Zaphod. Arthur and Ford finally arrived at the bridge. “Beeblebrox” said Ford. Arthur replied by saying you know him. Yes, said Ford we are semi-cousins. Arthur then said we have met on earth at a party you called yourself Phil but then you only had two arms and one head. Zaphod then asked Ford why he was on earth and Ford said he got stuck there. Trillion then appeared at the end of the bridge and said hello and Arthur also said hello he also had known Trillion. Trillion, Zaphod, and Ford could not sleep. So all three went on to the bridge and looked at the map and the tiny bleeps on it. Then the screen went black they had entered the Horse head Nebula. Zaphod replied by yelling I found it I finally found it. Chapter 15 is an excerpt from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. It tells how worlds were formed and worlds were destroyed. It tells of how the first planet was made. Today that planet is just a myth it is just a myth.
In chapter 16 the heart of gold found the planet Magrathea. The first clue that it might be Magrathea was its two suns, Soulianis and Rahm. As the ship was approaching the planet a voice began to talk to the ship. It said the planet was closed and hoped they would come back some other time but the ship proceeded. So the planet fired two nukes at the ship. Taking manual control of the ship very briefly they avoided the nukes. The only damage was to someone’s shoulder. The only reason the ship avoided the nuke’s was that Arthur had hit the improbability drive without setting it up. This caused the ship to avoid the nuclear warheads. In chapter 19 they were getting ready to leave through a hatchway when the computer was talking to them when Zaphod said “I think we will be better off with a slide rule” when the computer said right. The computer demanded that whoever said that had better confess or he was not letting them off. Zaphod threatened the computer to let hem go which he did after a few seconds. They got off the ship and began to walk across the planet.
A sperm whale had knocked an opening to a secret passageway. The passageway went underground were the Magrathean’s spent most of their time. While in the passageway Zaphod told Ford and Trillion that someone had engraved their initials in both of his brains. Arthur asked what they were and Zaphod said Z.B. the room then filled with gas and the three soon passed out. In chapter 21 “the hitchhikers guide to the universe tells a story about a student. The student looked for and found a planet that was entirely inhabited by ballpoint pens. It was night now and almost pitch-black out. It was so dark that Arthur did not even see the man that he walked into. In chapter 22 the old man and Arthur began to talk. The old man told Arthur about how the Magratheans were beginning to awake. The Magratheans had gone into a slumber to pass through the recession five million years earlier.
The man told Arthur that his name was Slartibartfast. Slartibartfast took Arthur into his ship and was going to take him into the planet core. Chapter 23 describes how dolphins were smarter than man and attempted several times to warn man of what was going to happen. After repeated failures the dolphins gave up and left earth soon before the Vogons arrived. In chapter 24 Slartibartfast took Arthur deep into the core of Magrathea. Slartibartfast would take Arthur to the area where planets were made. Slartibartfast told Arthur that mice had requested that the planet Earth be built and everything mice did was just an act put on. Mice had now requested that a new Earth be built. In chapter 25 it tells of how a few million years ago a race of hyper intelligent beings created a supercomputer to work out what the meaning of life was. After the computer was created and turned on two of the computer’s programmers asked the computer what was the meaning of life.
The computer replied by telling them that it would take the computer several million years to work out an answer. The programmers were upset because they thought they had built the smartest computer in the universe and it would give them an answer in seconds or moments. In chapter 26 Slartibartfast is going to tell Arthur about the second half of the story. Slartibartfast is going to take him to the new earth which is under construction or to hear it on sens-o-tape records. In chapter 27 Slartibartfast took Arthur to the study. Slartibartfast gave Arthur some wire’s to hold and as Arthur touched them he began to fly over a city. Then he was transported into a room with the supercomputer deep thought. Deep thought was about to tell the answer to the question they had asked millions of years earlier. Deep thought told them the answer was “forty two”. The two men in the room gasped. One of the men said “what does that mean”. Deep Thought told them they were asking the wrong question. Deep thought told the men that the only one who knows the question is the computer that will come after me. The supercomputer said he would design the next computer and name it “Earth”. Soon the recording had ended. Slartibartfast was standing in front of Arthur. Ford and Trillion woke Zaphod up. He had sleep longer since he had two lungs. They had been put into a holding cell where the scenery continually changed. As Arthur came out of the recording he and Slartibartfast talked about how Slartibartfast got his award. Slartibartfast told Arthur that the mice were waiting for him and that his arrival on the planet had been the third most improbable event in the history of the universe. Arthur and Slartibartfast soon left the study and got in a transport that took them to another room. They got in the room and a light appeared above a door. They walked in the room and saw Zaphod, Ford, and Trillion stuffing their faces with food. Arthur then noticed two mice sitting on the table. The two mice began to explain how the answer to the universe was in his brain and they were willing to buy it for a lot of money and give Arthur another brain. Arthur shrieked and tried to escape but as the door opened a group of men stood in front of the door preventing them from escaping. Soon a computer came online and said intruders armed and dangerous. The two mice saw Zaphod, ford, Trillion, and Arthur running up a passage way. Soon they were being shot at by cops. They all jumped into an opening between two computers and ducked to hide from the police fire. They all soon heard a thud and the fire had stopped. Ford looked out and saw two cops lying on the ground. He walked up to one of the cops and he was dead. Ford called the others and they followed. The group ran outside and got in an air car and there was a note on a computer panel with an arrow pointing a button that said “this is probably the best one to push”. The air car took them back to the heart of gold where there was another ship next to it. Everyone got on the ship except Ford who walked towards the other ship which turned out to be the cop’s ship. As Ford approached the ship he found Marvin lying face down in the ground. Marvin said he began to talk to the ship so it killed itself. Soon the heart of gold was flying through space. Arthur found the “hitchhikers guide to the universe” and came across an entry that said each civilization comes across three phases “how, why, where”. At that instant Zaphod came on the intercom and said “Earthman? You hungry, kid?” yes replied Arthur. “Ok” we will stop at a restaurant at the end of the universe.
